چکیده

I prove that, in models with complementarities, some non-monotone comparative statics must select unstable equilibria; and, under additional regularity conditions, that monotone comparative statics selects stable equilibria. JEL Classification. C61, C62, C72, C73. Discussions with my advisers, Ilya Segal and Chris Shannon, were very important for this work. I am very grateful for their help. I also thank Rabah Amir, Bob Anderson, Charles Púgh, Matthew Rabin, and seminar participants at UC Berkeley, the 2000 Conference in Honor of Rolf Mantel in Buenos Aires, and the 2000 World Congress of the Econometric Society. The exposition in the paper was improved by a referee’s suggestions.

Large N Strong/Weak Coupling Phase Transition and the Correspondence Principle

We argue that the large N strong/weak phase transition is a generic phenomenon in a finite temperature supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory of maximal supersymmetry. N = 4, D = 4 SYM is the canonical example, where we also argue that the large N HawkingPage phase transition disappears for a sufficiently small coupling. The Hawking-Page transition temperature is lowered by the first α′ correction. P...

Prices and Market Shares in a Menu Cost Model ∗

Pricing complementarities play a key role in determining the propagation of monetary disturbances in sticky price models. We propose a procedure to infer the degree of firm-level pricing complementarities in the context of a menu cost model of price adjustment using data on prices and market shares at the level of individual varieties. We then apply this procedure by calibrating our model (in w...

Social Learning with Payoff Complementarities∗

We incorporate strategic complementarities into a multi-agent sequential choice model with observable actions and private information. In this framework agents are concerned with learning from predecessors, signalling to successors, and coordinating their actions with those of others. Coordination problems have hitherto been studied using static coordination games which do not allow for learnin...

A Comparative Study of Least-Squares and the Weak-Form Galerkin Finite Element Models for the Nonlinear Analysis of Timoshenko Beams

In this paper, a comparison of weak-form Galerkin and least-squares finite element models of Timoshenko beam theory with the von Kármán strains is presented. Computational characteristics of the two models and the influence of the polynomial orders used on the relative accuracies of the two models are discussed. The degree of approximation functions used varied from linear to the 5th order. In ...

Prediction of mental disorders after Mild Traumatic Brain Injury: principle component Approach

Introduction: In Processes Modeling, when there is relatively a high correlation between covariates, multicollinearity is created, and it leads to reduction in model's efficiency. In this study, by using principle component analysis, modification of the effect of multicolinearity in Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Logistic Regression (LR) has been studied. Also, the effect of multicolineari...
